Hardy's Monument
Located near Portesham village in Dorset, England, on the highest point of the Blackdown area is Hardy's Monument. There's excellent views of the Dorset coast from this location.
This is not a memorial to the poet Thomas Hardy - it is to Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy (1769 - 1839). Hardy lived in the nearby village of Portesham. During the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Hardy served as Lord Nelson's flag captain.
The monument is 72 feet high.
